The announcement dropped on Wednesday. For those keeping score at home that’s a massive jump from nine months ago back in September when the company closed a $400M round at just $10.2B post-money.
Who wrote the checks?
Lux Capital and General Catalyst led the charge. Existing backers like Founders Fund and 8VC poured more in. New names joined the table too Ribbit Capital Atreides Layer Global.
Why does this matter?
It’s a vote of confidence. A giant one. The market thought this was a race the big models would swallow whole. Last year everything pointed toward consolidation. Anthropic pushed Claude Code. OpenAI had Codex. Google brought Jules to life after that messy Windsurf acquisition.
But independent coding startups survive.
Maybe the model makers didn’t capture everything after all.
