The Analogue 3D, a premium modern take on the Nintendo 64, is launching in eight translucent colors mirroring Nintendo’s iconic “funtastic” series from 1999. The company announced Monday that pre-orders will open December 10, with systems expected to ship before Christmas.
Throwback Design and Pricing
The new color options – Jungle (green), Ice (teal blue), Watermelon (pinkish red), Fire (orange), Grape (purple), Clear, Smoke (gray), and Gold – directly replicate the original Nintendo 64’s limited-edition palette. The colored models will retail for $300, a $30 premium over the standard black and white versions.
Limited Availability and Collector’s Appeal
Analogue is also collaborating with 8BitDo to release matching controllers at $45 each. These colors will be produced in limited quantities, a strategy that has proven lucrative for the company in the past. In 2021, similar limited-edition colors for their Game Boy-inspired Pocket console saw resale prices double on platforms like eBay.
Market Trends and Future Possibilities
This move taps into the growing retro gaming market, where nostalgia drives demand for both original hardware and high-quality reproductions. The limited availability intentionally creates artificial scarcity, encouraging collectors to purchase early and driving secondary market prices up. It is likely that Analogue will continue to release new colors, potentially including premium aluminum variants, to maintain collector interest and engagement.
The standard black and white Analogue 3D consoles will also be restocked, though shipping is not expected until 2026. This suggests a deliberate supply constraint even for the base models, further reinforcing the appeal of the limited-edition colors.
By replicating the original color schemes and limiting production, Analogue is not just selling a console, but a piece of gaming history with a built-in collector’s value.
