On Thursday, Reddit flipped a switch. You can drop videos right into comment threads. Short clips. Pre-recorded files. Anything works, technically.
Real people. Real reactions. Or so the pitch goes.

That’s the corporate line. Chief Product Officer speaking. She claims it’s about authenticity. I suppose it depends on whose face is on screen.
Some subreddits already have it. Look for a little camera icon in the reply box. Hit record. Upload. Wait.
They won’t let it live yet.
Safety filters catch it first. Review the footage. Check against the Terms of Service. Autoplay stays dead. Thank goodness for small mercies.
Why bother?
Recipes. Makeup tutorials. The mundane stuff. They mentioned the World Cup too. Show off your fancy soccer footwork. Because we were clearly waiting for an invitation to breakdance in our bedrooms before.
Is it better? Maybe. Is it just louder? Also yes.
No word on if the mods hate it. Yet.
